Choices Choices Choices

I am thinking about the upcoming term and a project we'll be doing with students. I would like to offer open ended activities to supplement a directed one, but it's always my struggle to know how much 'choice" to offer. I know the value of it, I see how much students like it. I saw students slow down and thoughtfully assemble their boxes. I enjoyed seeing them rearranging and playing with the various items I had available for them. It was interesting seeing all the different ways they used the same things in their own compositions. It was a lot of work gathering and offering the materials, but it was one of those projects where I could see the process, and saw how engaged the kids were. Hmm. This is the stuff I need to remember when I plan this new activity. Give choice, facilitate opportunities to problem
